Orfund Newsletter 2014
• Focus is on building local community capacity to expand services, to increase the number of children and youths receiving services and to improve overall service quality
• Local community support continues to expand with more involvement and greater ownership
• Orfund supported programs are continuing to move toward a higher percentage of local monetary support as opposed to sole support from Orfund
• Botswana’s HIV/AIDS Prevention of Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT) program is reducing the number of HIV positive infants. This is seen in a fewer number of HIV positive children attending Orfund sponsored programs
• The number of newly orphaned children is declining (child with no living parents) as AIDS treatment is reducing the death rate although the overall orphan rate is still high and the number of vulnerable children is reported to be increasing
